Gordon Lee Hill

Gordon Lee Hill, 93, of La Prairie Township, rural Janesville, died Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Edgerton Care Center. Gordon was born in Janesville on August 29, 1917, the son of John and Fay (Little) Hill. He attended Van Allen School and graduated in 1936 from Janesville High School. During high school, Gordon lettered in three sports and served as Junior Class President. He married Geraldine Hansen on June 13, 1936. They farmed east of Janesville on Highway 14 in La Prairie Township. He was elected director of the Van Allen School District in 1945. Gordon was elected to the Town of La Prairie Board in 1951, served on the board for forty-four years, and as chairman from 1963 to 1995. He served on the Building Committee for the La Prairie Consolidated School

Gordon was elected to the Rock County Board of Supervisors in 1963 and served for thirty-five years. He served on the following committees: Agricultural / Land Conservation as chairman, Education / Handicapped Board, Planning / Development as chairman, Regional Tri-County Planning, Legislative / Staff as chairman, Public Safety / Justice, Health Services as chairman, Social Services as chairman, General Services as chairman, Rock County Work Experience & Job Training Program, Council on Aging, Wisconsin Counties Utility Tax Association as director, Arrowhead Library, and Public Works / Transportation / Parks / Airport as chairman. Gordon served as County Board Vice-Chairperson 1972 – 1973 and as Chairperson 1974 – 1975. He was a member of the Rock County Towns and Wisconsin Towns Association.

He was a member of the Rock County and Wisconsin Guernsey Breeders Association and held office at the county level. He served as president for the Rock County Pure Milk Association. Gordon was a member of the Rock County Farm Bureau, La Prairie Grange, Badgerland Coop and Golden Guernsey Coop. He served as a member and officer of Tri-County YMCA Association. He was elected to the Rock County Fair Board for nine years with serving six years as vice president. Gordon and his wife, Geraldine, served as co-chairpersons for the La Prairie 4-H Club along with being project leaders.

Survivors include a son, Gordon Hill Jr. of Janesville, two daughters, Marjorie (Kenneth) Haberman and Catherine (John) Lader both of Janesville, three grandchildren, David Haberman of Milton, Steve Haberman of Janesville and Julie Wagner of Sun Prairie, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, his parents and one brother.

Funeral services will be held at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville on Tuesday, July 26, 2011 at 11 a.m. Rev. Thomas Moe will officiate. Interment will be in Emerald Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, July 25th from 5 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the Henke-Clarson Funeral Home.
